Billing
Global Billing Types$
This article provides an overview of the billing types for RCS messaging. The billing varies based on the message content, media, or suggested actions, and the number of recipients. The billing is calculated based on the number of messages sent from the end user to the enterprise and enterprise to the end user.
-
Basic Messages: An application-to-person (A2P) message that does contain only text (no media or suggested actions), and does not exceed 160 bytes in UTF-8 encoding. If the end user replies to the basic message within 24 hours, it is considered as a P2A conversation and billed accordingly. A basic message is always one way communication i.e delivered from application to end user.
-
A2P Single Message: An application-to-person (A2P) message that does contain text or media or suggested actions or all of them and exceeds 160 bytes in UTF-8 encoding. If the end user replies to the A2P single message within 24 hours, it is considered as a P2A conversation and billed accordingly.
-
A2P Conversation: A message is considered as an A2P conversation if the end user replies to the A2P single message or A2P basic message within 24 hours.
Note
If a P2A message is delivered within 24 hours of multiple A2P messages, only the A2P message that immediately preceded the P2A message is used to create the conversation session.
This A2P message, along with any messages delivered within the next 24 hours, are part of the new A2P conversation.
-
P2A Conversation: A message is considered as a P2A conversation when the following requirements are met:
- The business responds within 24 hours.
- There is no A2P message delivered within 24 hours.
- A P2A message is delivered.
-
Trans24: Messages triggered by user actions (like OTPs, order updates, payment confirmations) rather than promotions with a 24-hour window.
